Would you like to label your wine bottles or other packaging yourself? We’ll explain which accessories you’ll need to do so.

What do water bottles, yoghurt pots and coffee tins have in common? That’s right: the label! These days, we come across labels everywhere; they can be found on almost every product available to buy in shops. With wines, for example, the label also serves as a status symbol, as the vintage and region of origin provide the buyer with important information about the wine’s quality. Unfortunately, many winemakers underestimate the impact of a high-quality label, meaning that some good wines go unnoticed on the shop shelves. The good news is that creating a personalised label is easy and requires very few materials. We’ll explain step by step how you can label your own wine bottles in future and what you’ll need to do so.

Label design and cutting outline

Naturally, a label should not only be informative but also visually appealing in order to catch the customer’s eye. That’s why you should take a careful approach when designing an attractive label and invest in a good design programme. DrawCut LabelStudio, for example, is ideal for this – it not only helps you create the perfect design for your product but also allows you to define the correct cutting contour.

Printing and cutting to create the finished label

Next, print out the label. You should use a roll-to-roll printer for this; a laser or Memjet printer is best suited to the task. The label is then cut out using a professional label cutter, which punches the label out precisely along the cutting contour. Our Secabo LC30 label cutter also allows you to cut unprinted self-adhesive media, which will only be printed on at a later stage.

Stick on the label and you’re done!

The final step in producing the fully labelled product is the precise application of the label to the wine bottle. To ensure the labelling looks uniform and professional, a bottle applicator is required. This not only ensures optimal positioning, but also applies the labels to the bottles at high speed and without air bubbles. Applicators are also used for smaller runs, taking a great deal of work off your hands during the labelling process with minimal investment.
