Self-adhesive film

Spice up a gift bag

Gift bags – we’ve all seen them: boring patterns or odd colours that don’t suit the occasion. We want to change that!

How can I jazz up gift bags?

There’s always a reason to give someone a present, be it a little treat for everyday life, a birthday or a family celebration. The tricky bit is usually the wrapping, not the contents. Fiddling about with wrapping paper for ages is usually a bit of a faff, but that’s what gift bags are for! Everyone’s familiar with them, but they’re not exactly very personalised. Boring patterns that don’t really appeal to you, or odd colours that don’t suit the occasion. We want to change that! We’ve come up with the idea of jazzing up a few gift bags with our self-adhesive films. Naturally, we don’t want to keep this brilliant idea to ourselves, so let your creativity run wild!

Step 1:

Choose a gift bag that you’d like to decorate. Then use the right software to create the appropriate strips. Important: Use self-adhesive films if they are to be applied to specific items. Flock or flex films are only used on textiles . These can now be plotted using DrawCut software and a Secabo cutting plotter. To do this, simply export your file into the software and click on the knife icon in the top bar, which is next to the apple icon. Then, in the window that opens, click on ‘Cut’ and finally on ‘Yes’. If the plotter does not start cutting straight away, it is because you are still in the blade’s movement mode. So press ‘OK’ on the cutting plotter. The machine should now start the cutting process. It’s best to select several colours – this will give the bag a more colourful look. You can do this by plotting several strips per colour. This allows you to vary the colours and gives you several strips to work with for your design.

Step 2:

Cover the coloured strips with a transfer film. The adhesive side of the film must face downwards, onto the self-adhesive film. Run the squeegee firmly over it so that you cannot see any air bubbles outside the letters. Here is an example of how it should look:

Step 3:

You can now cut out the individual strips. Once you have smoothed the transfer film down again with the squeegee, you can stick the strips onto the gift bag wherever you like. Now peel off the transfer film. The strip should then remain stuck to the bag.

The same process applies to text and other designs as well.
