Which heat transfer press is right for me?
A swing-type press, a oscillating press or a pneumatic press? When choosing a transfer press, you’re spoilt for choice. We’ll introduce you to the various models.
Transfer presses are a popular tool in textile finishing. They are used to transfer designs onto textiles and other materials. The presses are available in various designs, each of which is particularly well suited to different applications. Below, we outline clamshell, swing and pneumatic presses to help you choose the right transfer press.

Transfer presses are a popular tool when it comes to transferring a wide variety of designs onto a transfer medium. They are most commonly used on textiles, but printing is also possible on other materials. Picturedhere is the Secabo TC7 SMART.
What is a heat transfer press?
Transfer presses reliably transfer lettering, images and logos onto a wide variety of transfer items. The machine works by applying heat and pressure, which is why it is also referred to as a ‘heat press’ or ‘textile printing press’. Textiles such as T-shirts and cotton bags are usually used as the transfer medium. However, caps, blankets and umbrellas can also be printed using a transfer press; there are virtually no limits to creativity here. When selecting the material, the only requirement is that it is sufficiently heat- and pressure-resistant, as well as receptive to polymer coatings. The latter can be found, for example, in flex and flock films, toner transfers and screen-printing transfers. All these transfer media can therefore be used for transfer printing. Please note, however, that the values for contact pressure, temperature and time vary depending on the material used.
The folding press: a cost-effective entry-level model

Folding presses, also known as toggle-lever presses, are manually closed onto the material to be printed using a lever. Most presses now open automatically upwards once the specified transfer time has elapsed. This makes the folding press an extremely space-saving transfer press. Knee-lever presses are particularly suitable for transferring designs onto thin textiles such as T-shirts and cotton bags. Thanks to their ease of use and affordable price, they are especially designed for those new to textile finishing. In the YOW! online shop, you’ll find a wide selection of reliable and affordable clamshell presses. We particularly recommend the Secabo TC2 or TC5 SMART transfer press for beginners .
Optimal contact pressure with the Swingpress

In a swing press, the upper heating element swings horizontally away from the plate to the side. This creates a wider opening, which also allows for the printing of thicker materials such as jackets and sweatshirts. Furthermore, thanks to its swing mechanism, the swing press produces a more even distribution of pressure, leading to higher-quality results. The greater distance between the two pressing plates means that the risk of the garment coming into contact with the heating plates before the actual pressing takes place is extremely low. Not least, this prevents burns during changeover procedures. Whilst swing-away presses are slightly more expensive than folding presses, they are also significantly more flexible and convenient to use. High-quality swing-away presses are available from YOW! from as little as €1,479. This includes the Secabo TS7 swingaway transfer press, which impresses with its powerful heating capacity and excellent heat distribution. The press’s automatic opening and swing-away mechanism makes working with it particularly convenient. Depending on your requirements and available space, you can also lock the side swing-away function, so that the press only opens upwards.
The pneumatic press: a professional press for large print runs

Unlike conventional transfer presses, the pneumatic press generates contact pressure using compressed air. As the contact pressure is always exactly the same and does not depend on the operator’s strength, consistent, reproducible results are guaranteed. This makes pneumatic presses particularly suitable for professional use with high order volumes. Even large designs are no problem thanks to the generous work surface. In the YOW! online shop, you’ll find a range of pneumatic presses suitable for all standard transfer processes in large print runs. The Secabo TPD7 pneumatic double-plate press offers a particularly generous work surface with two workplates and ensures professional, precise prints even for large print runs.

Specialised presses for mugs, caps and more
As well as clamshell presses, swing presses and pneumatic presses, there are other specialised presses designed to apply optimum pressure to unusual materials. At YOW!, you’ll find, for example, mug presses, cap presses and even ball presses, which you can use to transfer your chosen design onto any surface, no matter how unusual. You’re also guaranteed to find what you’re looking for when searching for suitable sublimation items and textiles.
