Transfer temperatures

When it comes to heat transfer presses and transfer temperatures, the first things that spring to mind are textiles and flock or flex films. Of course, this field of promotional and creative technologies also includes sublimation onto various materials, inkjet flex, Chromablast transfer, etc. In practice, these different materials require different transfer temperatures, depending on the creative technology, the material and, of course, the hardware used. We have compiled a few (non-binding) guidelines which, on the one hand, make working with the materials easier and, on the other hand, also make it clear that not all textile transfers are the same.

Chromablast – Cotton transfer

  • Temperature: 190°C – 200°C (please use a silicone mat!)
  • Pressure: medium – firm
  • Time: 40 – 50 seconds (remove whilst hot!)

Flock film

  • Temperature: 170°C – 185°C
  • Pressure: light – medium
  • Time: 25 seconds

Sublimation flock

  • Temperature: 195°C
  • Pressure: light – medium
  • Time: 20 seconds

Flexible film

  • Temperature: 160°C – 170°C
  • Pressure: medium – high
  • Time: 25 seconds

Sublimation flex

  • Temperature: 180°C – 195°C
  • Pressure: medium – high
  • Time: 10–35 seconds

Sublimation printing on ceramic mugs

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Pressure: medium – high
  • Time: 150–180 seconds

Sublimation printing on tiles

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Pressure: high
  • Time: 120–480 seconds (depending on the thickness of the material)

Sublimation jigsaw puzzle

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Pressure: low to medium
  • Duration: 25 seconds

Sublimation mousepad

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Pressure: medium
  • Duration: 20–40 seconds

Sublimation printing on textiles

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Pressure: medium – high
  • Duration: 30–50 seconds

Sublimation printing on metal plates

  • Temperature: 200°C
  • Pressure: high
  • Duration: 10–50 seconds (depending on the thickness of the material)

Inkjet Flex (printable)

  • Temperature: 155°C – 165°C
  • Pressure: Medium (3.5 bar)
  • Time: 17 – 20 seconds

Important note:

For the best transfer results, peel off the transfer while hot, warm or cold, in accordance with the specific processing instructions.

Before each production run, you should carry out your own tests (possibly on an inconspicuous area) using the relevant transfer materials and carrier media to assess wash fastness and behaviour during the transfer process.  The values given above and the manufacturer’s specifications are for guidance only. It is advisable to produce a sample before starting series production to ensure that the desired result is achieved.

No guarantee can be derived from the recommended values. It is always the responsibility of the user to determine and apply the settings applicable under their specific conditions.
